Syros

vaporia_edited.jpg

Back in time at Vaporia

During the Revolution, refugees from the North Aegean and Crete settled in Syros. There they built unique mansions next to the sea, thus creating their own captain's houses, their own "ships". From the 19th century onwards, the district took the name of Vaporia, known to this day, and continues to be famous as the most prestigious district of Ermoupolis. In the area, the church of Agios Nikolaos, which dominates with its towering spiers, is worth visiting.

Ermoupolis

In the capital of Syros, you will never get boring of walking. Here you will admire sights such as the 19th century Town Hall in the central square, a work by Chiller and the famous Apollo Theater. The Hellas club, the Pallas cinema, the building of the Labor Center. Ornate staircases and magnificent frescoes make the interior of the buildings equally fascinating.

The Capital of Cyclades

The island of Vamvakaris. Cultural crossroads. Cosmopolitan and traditional. Beautifully sung and romantic. Syros is the island of contrasts that will bring you "a spark, a flame", as soon as you face its port. If you are looking for a place for your summer vacation, which offers options for both entertainment and relaxation, book a ticket to Syros now. The princess of the Cyclades stands in the middle of the Aegean and is waiting for you to explore her.

Apollon Theater

The Apollon Theater is a symbol of Hermoupolis, inextricably linked to its history. The city, founded by refugees, was a social, economic and architectural miracle of the 19th century with remarkable cultural movement and creative refulgence. The building was constructed within two years time (1862 - 1864), based on the designs of the Italian municipal architect Pietro Sambo. Its architecture follows at least four Italian theater standards: “La Scala” in Milan (1776), “Teatro San Carlo” of Naples (1816), the academic theater of “Castelfranco” (1745), and “Teatro della Pergola” of Florence (1755).

Ano Syros Love at first sight

The historic old town, where the Catholic element is particularly strong, is developed on a hill above Ermoupoli. Wander through the Cycladic alleys of Ano Syros, go up to the Catholic Church of San George and stop in the square with the bust of the great rebbe, Markos Vamvakaris. From here you will see Ermoupoli panoramically and you will fall in love with it.

Galissas and Delagracia

Another attraction of the west coast is Galissas, one of the most famous beaches of Syros. Here you will find everything you need to spend a whole day. The sand and shallow water make the beach an ideal choice for families, while the same applies if you are a fan of water sports. Agios Stefanos in Galissa, a small, white chapel in the rocky landscape of the area that is definitely worth seeing.

Sunsets in Kini

Kini's privileged position in Syros allows visitors to enjoy the most magnificent view of the sunset before enjoying a meal in one of the village's seaside restaurants. Boats depart from Kini for the most secluded beaches of the island, while nearby is the Lotos beach with its tamarisk trees. Further north you will swim in the Dolphin, the Varvarousa and the mythical Eagle.

Luxury and relaxation

Just 1 km from Poseidonia, Komito beach is a favorite destination for those looking for an oasis of relaxation and tranquility. Turquoise waters, views of the rocky island Round and orange sunsets. Simple magic. Agathope beach, on the other hand, is one of the busiest beaches of Syros. The small path that leads from the beach into the sea as well as the rocky islet of Strongylos, Schinonisi and the impressive lighthouse at Cape Viglostasi, add some picturesque notes to the already enchanting scenery.

Apano Meria

Spreads out in the mountainous landscape of Syros. The view is magnificent and the few tavernas that you will find scattered on your way will take you on a journey to the local flavors. Beaches worth discovering on this wilder side of the island are the pirate Grammata, the beautiful Gria Spilia (or American Cave), the isolated Marmari, the unspoiled Megas Lakkos and Lia.
